Maine’s Land Use Planning Commission has approved a 700-acre solar energy project billed as one of the largest in New England. Commissioners unanimously concluded that the Three Corners Solar Project in Benton, Clinton and Unity Township met regulatory requirements for the site. Further regulatory approvals are needed.
But a new report from Environment America said when it comes to solar power — something that’s all the rage in other cities — Nashville is near the back of the pack: 64th out of 67 major U.S. cities when it comes to solar capacity per capita.
May 12 (Renewables Now) – Portuguese electric utility EDP – Energias de Portugal SA (ELI:EDP) has clinched a deal to install up to 100 MWp of solar panels at sites of French automotive parts maker Faurecia SE (EPA:EO) across a number of countries around the world.
As part of its plan to achieve net-zero U.K. operations by 2027, Vodafone has signed a 10-year agreement with power supplier Centrica and MYTILINEOS’ Renewables & Storage Development business unit for power generated from three new solar farms in Lincolnshire, Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire.
Hillston reached 100% generation in less than 3 months from first energisation. ”Reaching full output ahead of schedule is a testament to the cooperation of all stakeholders, in particular the Distribution Network Service Provider Essential Energy, and the proactive management from our local team”, said Dean Cooper, Executive Vice President and Head of Amp Australia.
Beaconhouse Group, Pakistan’s largest network of private educational institutions and a host of diverse businesses, is successfully running 40 of the network’s facilities on solar energy. Students of 26 Beaconhouse campuses conducted research projects on solar energy’s impact on reducing the use of non-renewable energy.
The Charge Around Australia project will power a Tesla electric car with 18 of the team’s printed plastic solar panels, each 18 meters (59 feet) long, rolling them out beside the vehicle to soak up sunlight when it needs a charge. Paul Dastoor, the inventor of the printed solar panels, said the University of Newcastle team would be testing not only the endurance of the panels but their potential performance for other applications.
Foes of renewable energy continue to insist that reliability is a major concern for solar power, partly because solar panels don’t function effectively when conditions are cold and snowy. That myth has been debunked time and again, and a very small but very significant new solar-plus-storage microgrid project in Alaska should put it to bed once and for all.
Researchers at Stanford modified commercially available solar panels to generate a small amount of electricity at night by exploiting a process known as radiative cooling, which relies on, no lie, the frigid vacuum of space. The research was published in early April in Applied Letters in Physics.
French-based independent power producer (IPP), Neoen, has officially commissioned the 41 MWp Metoro solar power plant in Mozambique. Inaugurated in October 2020 by Mozambican President, H.E. Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, the project will come online in the next few weeks, supplying much-needed electricity to the national grid.
